the amazing thing about this is that the dog is actually a whippet, and whippets usually look somewhat like greyhounds. this dog must look absolutely enormous around other whippets.
I know that, from experience, that whippets aren’t vicious unless provoked, and are often quite shy. I don’t imagine that she has any difficulty getting around because she doesn’t think that she’s any different from any other dog, and therefore doesn’t need to get approval from anyone but her owner. It even says that in the article that she’s not shy about getting belly scratches. Only a really secure and happy dog will do that.

Honestly, this is a real dog. Read the article, and the follow-up. Whether a genetic mutation or the owners have fed her steroids, who knows. But one guy saying, “hey its photoshopped” that is a bit much even for that worthy program. Sometimes there are strange things in this world, not all are faked or exaggerated, like the wild boar in Kentucky was. Photoshop has ruined our perspective of simple detail observation. Though every time I look in the mirror, I wish I could photoshop what I see!

I’m reading this article about “bully” whippets for my molecular genetics class and I looked up some more pictures on google. I came across this site and found all of your comments interesting. The picture is totally real if some peope are truly still wondering or refuse to believe that it’s real. The double-muscled dog is only due to a simple mutation where two base pairs from it’s DNA is removed. A dog with only one mutated chromosome (heterozygous) is more muscular than regular whippets, and if both sets of chromosomes are mutated (homozygous) then it looks grotesquely muscular. This is similar to cases of cattle where the are more muscular than non-mutated counterparts.

It makes me laugh, the stupidity of some people. This dog is not “poor”, it’s healthy, and happy. The owner’s not abusing her in any way. She was just born with a genetic defect, as the article said.
